Macao is a city that combines Portuguese architecture, traditional Chinese streets and alleys and modern construction, It is also a meeting point of Chinese and Western histories and cultures. With its unique beauty and connotation, Macao was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005.

The Macao World Heritage Area includes the Historic Centre of Macao, the Ruins of St. Paul's Church and its related buildings, as well as the A-Ma Temple and its related buildings. These World Heritage Sites represent the uniqueness of Macao in terms of history, culture, and religion. There are numerous historical monuments, squares and streets preserved here. Built in the early 16th century, St. Paul's Church and the related buildings used to be one of the oldest Catholic churches in Macao and the first university and religious center of the Portuguese in Asia at that time. The A-Ma Temple and the related buildings, built in the early 15th century, is still one of the oldest Chinese temples in Macao, representing the widespread of traditional Chinese culture among the people of Macao.
